Answers to Questions (FAQ)

What is an astrological sign? (Definition)

The astrological sign is a psychological classification system based on the apparent position of the Sun among star constellations. These constellations are imaginary and were arbitrarily chosen over 2,000 years ago. According to this rigorously unscientific approach, an individual's character, romantic destiny, and downtime are influenced not by genetics, environment, or personal choices, but by the location of the Sun at the time of birth, as seen from a rotating rock (the Earth).

How to calculate the astrological sign?

To find out your astrological sign, use your date of birth. The tropical zodiac (the most widely used in Western astrology) is divided into 12 signs spread over the solar year. Here are the date ranges for each sign:

— Aries: March 21 – April 19

— Taurus: April 20 – May 20

— Gemini: May 21 – June 20

— Cancer: June 21 – July 22

— Leo: July 23 – August 22

— Virgo: August 23 – September 22

— Libra: September 23 – October 22

— Scorpio: October 23 – November 21

— Sagittarius: November 22 – December 21

— Capricorn: December 22 – January 19

— Aquarius: January 20 – February 18

— Pisces: February 19 – March 20

It is also possible to calculate your sign based on the exact position of the sun on your date of birth (sidereal sign). There may be one day difference between the sidereal sign and the zodiacal sign.

Example: A person with a birthdate 21/01/2000 has for astrological zodiacal sign aquarius and sidereal sign capricorn.

The other stars (the sun is a star) positions do not influence the sidereal sign. Planets or constellations do not influence either.

What are the Zodiac symbols?

Occidental astrology uses a zodiac which divides the sky in 12 astrological signs in equal amplitudes. There are 12 astrological signs, whose symbols are: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius.

Some drawings can be found in the font Wingdings.

Is there a 13th zodiac sign?

Ophiuchus (or Serpentarius) is a constellation crossed by the Sun, between Scorpio and Sagittarius, which makes it normally a perfectly legitimate thirteenth sign.

In the noble realm of astrology, where the stars have dictated destiny for centuries, factual existence is forbidden. Too disruptive: thirteen is odd and frightening, and especially Serpentarius would ruin centuries of perfectly arbitrary love compatibility calculations.
