## Number Comparison with Percentages

### What is a percentage? (Definition)

A percentage is the measure of the number of items in a set (or total) expressed as a fraction with a denominator of 100 (one hundred).

A percentage is a ratio per 100 items. By always using 100, the percentages are easily compared for statistics.

### How to convert a fraction into a percentage?

A percentage is the numerator of a fraction with the denominator 100 (one hundred). To convert a fraction to a percentage multiply the numerator and the denominator by a factor in order to have the denominator equals to 100.

Example: $3/4 = (3*25)/(4*25) = 75/100 = 75\%$

List of common fractions:

1/2 50% 33.3% 66.7% 25% 75% 20% 40% 60% 80%

Use the form at the top of the page for any other fraction.

### How to convert a percentage to a fraction?

A percentage is already a fraction (over 100), write this proportion as a fraction in lowest term.

Example: $25\% = 25/100 = 1/4$

### How to convert a percentage into a decimal number?

A percentage is a fraction and a fraction is a number, so converting a percentage to a number is making the corresponding division.

Example: $4\% = 4/100 = 0.04$

Sometimes the division is not a finite decimal number, in this case, use to decimal number rouding.

### How to calculate an equation with percentages?

The dCode tools as the equation solver allows to solve equations such as:

Example: If 25% of X = 100, Then X = ? (The corresponding equation is x*(25/100)=100 and the answer is 400)

### What does pc means?

Sometimes the letters pc are used as an abbreviation of the word percent, often when the % key is not available (some keyboards or typewriters do not contain this sign)
