A percentage is ratio for 100 items. In mathematics and more specifically in statistics, it is a transformed fraction with the denominator 100 (one hundred). To convert a fraction to a percentage multiply the numerator and the denominator by a factor in order to have the denominator equals to 100.
Example: $ 3/4 = (3*25)/(4*25) = 75/100 = 75\% $
A percentage is already a fraction (over 100), write this proportion in lowest term.
Example: $ 25\% = 25/100 = 1/4 $
A percentage is a fraction and a fraction is a number, so converting a percentage to a number is making the corresponding division.
Example: $ 4\% = 4/100 = 0.04 $
Sometimes the letters pc are used as an abbreviation of the word percent, often when the % key is not available (some keyboards or typewriters do not contain this sign)
