Elian script is an alternative writing system, with its own alphabet, which combines the linearity of letter forms with the freedom of design/drawing.
Elian writing uses a specific alphabet, generated from a grid of nine squares.
The alphabet is divided into 3 parts (or cycles): A-I, J-R and S-Z.
The first cycle (A-I): the lines of the squares are of equal length.
Second cycle (J-R): the lines are of unequal length, any unequal line indicates that it is a letter of the second cycle. There are therefore at least 2 possible writings per letter.
Third cycle (S-Z): the lines are also unequal as for the 2nd cycle but also accompanied by a point (or a dash, or any other additional sign). The exact position of the point is free. There are therefore an infinite number of possible writings per letter.

The Elian writing allows great freedom in the shape of the lines (straight, curved, mixed) and the angles between them. The important thing is the length of the lines in the writing of the letter (the lines must be clearly equal or unequal to avoid any ambiguity), the style can be modified for more fluidity or aesthetics. Note that the position of the points (for the third cycle) must be done in such a way as to avoid confusion, especially when several letters follow one another.
The writing of the words must be done from left to right and from top to bottom. In doing so, it is still possible to stack the letters or groups of letters.
Elian script is a form of homophonic substitution (sometimes several characters for the same letter).
Start by identifying each letter according to:
— its position in the nine-square grid
— whether its lines are of equal or unequal length
— whether the letter has a mark (dot, dash, etc.)
Recompose the words by arranging the letters from left to right and from top to bottom.
To recognize the Elian script, observe the following characteristics:
— Alphabet composed of letters created from strokes and dots
— The strokes composing the letters have 1 or 2 distinct lengths
— Some letters are accompanied by a dot (or a dash)
— The notion of a nine-square grid (like Tic Tac Toe) is a clue
— The famous Pigpen alphabet is very similar (and has many other variations)
The appearance of the letters is flexible, the Elian script has no strict rules regarding angles or line shapes, which allows for great artistic freedom. However, the linear structure remains identifiable, even if the lines are curved or connected in a fluid way.
Created by C.C. Elian, this script was initially a code to differentiate drafts from completed writings. It evolved from a nine-square numerical grid to become a flexible and aesthetic calligraphic system.
